As promised, a quick review of some games we’ve been playing lately since we signed up for Gamefly. All these games were for XBOX 360. This is the first round of reviews, enjoy.
Burnout Paradise (1/22/08)
I was a huge fan of Burnout Revenge on PS2 so there was no question about getting this game. The new open world type game play was a nice break from the formalized stages on the maps from the previous version. The only complaint is that you had to drive back to the start of races you wanted to try again — a nice quick reply option at the end of the race would have been sweet. The graphics and physics were awesome as well. Although the stunt runs proved to be the most challenging, they were also the coolest runs in the game. Haley kicked ass at doing these and I stuck more to the plain races and road rages. I really dig the supernatural ability to go flying full speed through traffic and launching off ramps. I was a little shocked when the game announced that we had finished and started rolling the credits when it was just 62% complete. There really wasn’t a storyline so it seemed kind of bizarre, but it didn’t change the gameplay at all, and there’s still 50 or so missions we have left to do. Overall, sweet game, must play.

Devil May Cry 4 (2/7/08)
We had never played any of the games in the Devil May Cry series but this one got such good reviews we couldn’t pass it up. I really enjoyed the story and the characters, the graphics were outstanding; however I was taken back by how much my hands hurt after playing for a while. Although there were combo moves and a variety of weapons, I found myself button mashing to an extreme level, and surprisingly it was quite effective. I would have preferred a more advanced fighting system, but overall it was a good game. Nero’s Devil Bringer arm was super sweet and kicked ass over Dante’s traditional weapons - but they were both fun to play.

Bully (3/4/08)
We missed out on this one when it came out for PS2 - but were finally appeased when the new edition came to XBOX 360. Since the success of GTA from the Rockstar camp, we’ve held their titles to a different level, expecting more and more. This game did not disappoint. The variety of missions and weapons kept the storyline moving alongside the frantic runs to get to class on time. Me, being the big nerd, just wanted to pass every class and do everything right. It was nice to find that you could balance between giving people wedgies, making out with girls/guys, getting to class, and helping out the cliques with their antics. Highlights included kicking the jocks’ asses while dressed up like the school mascot - GO BULLWORTH! YEAH BULLWORTH!

Literally, it feels like forever since the original announcement of this game and the heartbreaking delay for nearly 6 months. We were expecting this to be delivered on May 1st, but it has arrived and neither of our workstations and the massive pile ups of papers and tasks can overcome the urge to delve into Liberty City and run over some hookers. I had planned to post some game reviews on some of the recent titles we have been playing, but they’ll just have to wait for now. Stay tuned for more gaming updates.
