SMOKE

April 14th, 2008 by Nicole

This past Friday Haley and I got to travel into the city for a unique experience. We were meeting his mom and Pat for a night of jazz music at the swanky SMOKE lounge. Performing that night was The 9th Anniversary Jazz Sextet - featuring Eddie Henderson, Eric Alexander, Steve Davis & the Joe Farnsworth Trio. It was absolutely awesome. We were a little late in arriving and our seats were literally five feet from the stage. The space was small and intimate, just barely fifty people but the acoustics were great.

The dining aspect was equally awesome - the food was great and the service was excellent. There were food minimums and additional music charges, but it was reasonable for the quality of the experience. We only wished we could have stuck around for another set, but they were booked throughout the night. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a sweet jazz club in the city.

This kind of night really makes me wish that we traveled into the city more often and found more cool spots like this. We just have to suck it up and be more adventurous. Hopefully this is the beginning of more fun adventures to come.
